“I never spent Bulgarian people’s money; everywhere I went, I used my own funds.\u201d<\/p>\n

This was announced before bTV by the leader of the nationalist \u201cAtaka\u201d party Volen Siderov.<\/p>\n

Regarding holidays in Paris, the Cote d’Azur and Venice, he said that they were paid by powerful friends:<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are people who will always help me and friends abroad who are always ready to welcome me. There are people in the world who really appreciate me. I have powerful friends who can invite me to expensive hotels. And I was in Paris without spending people’s money.”<\/p>\n

Earlier, the French hotel “Four Seasons” told Nova TV that Volen Siderov paid close to 15 000 euros for six nights stay. This amount is roughly equivalent to his annual salary as Member of the Parliament. According to the metadata of the photos, published by the PIK agency, Volen Siderov\u2019s stay in this hotel dates from August 2009<\/p>\n

If Siderov\u2019s explanations are truthful and the hotel bill was paid by a fan of his, pursuant to the Public Disclosure of Property of Persons Occupying High State Positions Act, such costs must also be described in the MPs\u2019 tax declarations. Siderov has not declared even 1 lev in Box 15. Expenses incurred by or on behalf of the declarant, his wife \/husband \/ or minor children with their consent when they are not paid by their own means or with funds of the institution, where they occupy a position. <\/i><\/p>\n

Here are Siderov\u2019s tax declarations from 2006 until today, which are available in the Registry of the National Audit Office:<\/p>\n

2006: No amount exceeding 5 000 levs available in cash or deposits; no income other than those from the position held exceeding 2 000 levs, no expenses made on behalf of the declarant or his relatives by third parties;<\/p>\n
