Volen Siderov<\/strong> has been accused of extortion in 1984, reveal records of the Sofia District Court.<\/p>\nSiderov was charged under an old article of the Penal Code, which in 1984 postulated:<\/p>\n
Art. 264, a person, who, with the purpose of obtaining for himself or for another individual economic profit by force or threat, forces someone to do, omit or suffer something against their will, thus causing them or somebody else’s property damage, shall be punished by imprisonment of up to three years or by corrective labor.<\/p>\n
Siderov\u2019s extortion case was filed with docket number 5152\/84 after pre-trial proceedings number 1219\/84 from the docket of the Prosecution.<\/p>\n
In August 2010, the former head of the National Security Service Atanas Atanasov announced information that Siderov was arrested with marked money for blackmailing the head of a photographic crew. He had been facing criminal investigation, the General insisted, but there is no data on indictment and court proceedings in this case.<\/p>\n
Atanasov expressed concern that Siderov may have been recruited as a collaborator of the secret services and they had lifted criminal responsibility from him.<\/p>\n
A detailed investigation of the newspaper 168 hours fully confirmed General Atanasov\u2019s information for an investigation, but found no track record of an indictment and lawsuit against Siderov.<\/p>\n
Information from the filing registry and term book of the Sofia District Court, discovered by Bivol, proves unequivocally that the investigation has concluded with an indictment against Siderov and that a lawsuit was launched.<\/p>\n
(The case boils down to Siderov, back during the time of the Communist regime, illegally appropriating \u2013 stealing a camera from the photographer and then blackmailing him for the substantial for this time amount of 1000 levs to return it.)<\/p>\n
Registries do not give information on how the case concluded and whether Siderov received a suspended sentence. The fact that the presidential candidate in 2007 and 2011 has a document for clean criminal record means that Siderov has not effectively served a jail sentence.<\/p>\n
