Nikolay Koblyakov, founder of the French NGO “Free Russia” (Russie-Libert\u00e9), which for years has organized protests against Putin’s regime in defense of \u201cPussy Riot\u201d and of support for Russian opposition, repressed by the Kremlin, has been arrested at Sofia Airport yesterday, July 29, 2014,.<\/p>\n
Koblyakov, who has French and Russian citizenship, risks extradition to Russia.<\/p>\n
The French Embassy has been notified and has contacted Bulgarian authorities, however, it does not have any other information or details, Bivol learned.<\/p>\n
Approached for comment, the press office of the Interior Ministry initially said it could not confirm the information about Koblyakov\u2019s arrest. Later they said Koblyakov was arrested by order of Interpol.<\/p>\n
The Prosecution office: No such case for us!<\/strong><\/p>\n The speaker of the Prosecution office initially declined comments on the case, but later Malina Alexandrova from the press office said, that “the Prosecution is not aware about such a case”.<\/p>\n However, if a person is detained in Bulgaria a prosecution order is needed to extend the first 24 hours of the initial detention to 72 hours.<\/p>\n According to the latest information (18h local time) Kobliakov left the Sofia Airport and is on the road to the National Investigation Service.
