The Insider Russia (TheIns.ru), a respected independent investigative site, has published an article by the political analyst at the Free Russia Foundation Alisa Volkova. The article, titled ‘A “friendly” deal. How Russian money supports corrupted Bulgarian politicians’ cites Bivol and its investigations into Lukoil Bulgaria and Vivacom and focuses on Kremlin’s hold on Bulgarian politicians and the country’s entire economy through companies such as Lukoil and Vneshtorgbank (VTB). TheIns.ru also mentions the leaked to WikiLeaks diplomatic cable from the US Embassy in Bulgaria to the US State Department, first published by Bivol as a WikiLeaks partner for the Balkans and founder of Balkanleaks. The cable, titled BULGARIA’S MOST POPULAR POLITICIAN: GREAT HOPES, MURKY TIES, was signed by then-Ambassador in Sofia John Beyrle who later became US Ambassador in Moscow.
