Stanislav Anastasov, nominated by the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS, the party largely representing the Turkish minority in Bulgaria – editor’s note) to head the Ministry of Environment and Waters in replacing Iskra Mihaylova (who is going to be MEP – editor’s note) has graduated with a major in “Informatics” from the Munich Technical University (TUM) in Germany and with a major in “Business Management” from the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” according to his official introduction on the DPS website.
Anastasov’s exact degree is not clear, but the meaning of the word is unambiguous – it is claimed that he finished a full course of study and received a diploma from TUM.
The possession of such diploma is very prestigious as the Munich Technical University is Germany’s number one business administration and information systems school and is among the top 50 universities in the world, according to “the Shanghai Ranking.” According to the same ranking, TUM is one of the four best technical universities in Europe.
Graduated or Enrolled?
A few years ago, in a “business card,” published in the Capital newspaper, Stanislav Anastasov’s introduction was more modest: “After studying “Applied Mathematics” in Germany for one year, he returned to Bulgaria because he desired to have a political career.”
To be considered “a graduate”, a student enrolled at the Munich Technical University must obtain at least a bachelor’s degree, which means studying for a minimum of 3 years (6 semesters).
According to information of Bivol, Stanislav Anastasov was enrolled to pursue a major in “Informatics” in TUM, but simply failed to take the exams, and that is what brought him back to Bulgaria and not the “desire for a political career.”
Now, however, the desire for even greater political career as candidate for Member of the Parliament and Minister, highlights the “graduation” from TUM, which impressed even the “PhD in Firefighting Sciences,” former Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov.
Where Is the Diploma of Graduate Anastasov?
Bivol approached with an official inquiry the press office of the Munich Technical University with questions what and when did Stanislav Anastasov study; had he obtained a diploma and what type of diploma it was. TUB answered immediately that they would research the matter, but according to the German law on protection of personal data, a written consent from the former student is required.
Then, the TUM Student Services Center sent a sample form that Mr. Anastasov must complete and sign, in order to give the media access to information about his studies and graduation. We forwarded the form to the press office of DPS, with a request to be submitted to the young Minister hopeful.
A Young and Energetic Liberal
Anastasov is a member of DPS since 2006. He is a former Secretary of the Central Operational Council of the Youth Branch of DPS. He is currently the Vice President of the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY).
In 2012, Stanislav Anastasov became co-founder of the Balkan Liberal Network (ISEEL). According to the “Daxy” registry, the list of its founders also includes Desislava Krasimirova Todorova, who is a founder of the party of controversial new politician and former TV host, Nicholay Barekov – Bulgaria without Censorship – and was ninth on the ballot of the same party for the elections for European Parliament.
