The government of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, which claims to lead pro-European and democratic policies, appointed Boris Vangelov from VMRO as SABA boss. This happened after the mockup competition organized by Kuneva, about which Bivol already wrote (see here).
According to unofficial information, the leader of VMRO Krasimir Karakachanov (also known as agent “Ivan” of the Communist Secret Services – the State Security) has blackmailed Borisov with the withdrawal of his party’s support for the government, if his man, legal counsel for the Foundation VMRO, is not appointed at the post.
In addition to being a “patriot”, Vangelov proclaims himself in public as a Russophile, Member of the National Council of the Movement Russophiles. The Chairman of the Movement is the Socialist Member of the Parliament, Nikolay Malinov, who congratulated all Slavs with the “third victory in the Crimean War!”
Like Malinov, Vangelov is a devout Putin fan, as his position expressed on Facebook demonstrates. In a comment on an article by a Ukrainian journalist, Vangelov writes that Ukraine is an artificial State, and “putin” (this is how he has written the name, without capital letter – editor’s note) is defending his interests.”
The new boss of SABA demonstrated questionable literacy as he has committed several grammar and spelling errors in just one post.
Bulgarians abroad, organized in a Facebook group, already vehemently protested against the appointment and demanded Vangelov’s resignation of. The site Euro Chicago keeps a detailed record (in Bulgarian) of the competition, open letters from organizations of Bulgarians abroad to the authorities and the reactions after the appointment.
