Documentary Film about the Rescuers of Bulgarian Jews in Burgas

Let’s Remember is a 30-minute narrative film about the Burgas Jews and their fate, filled with unexpected twists. The story begins with the full-pledged participation of the Jewish community in all sectors of the economic and cultural progress of the city in the early 20th century. The film, authored by Alberta Alkalay, is an authentic and emotional flashback from the horrific years of the Holocaust. It is seeking to explain the reasons for the then-unique public and private display of morals of resistance to the anti-human laws on mass extermination of Jews.

Let’s Remember is not a classic documentary that overcomes the distance of the years. It is reading of pages of Bulgarian history, unmatched both by their tragedy and dignity, when on the backdrop of inhuman cruelty to one ethnicity, another’s solidarity stood out.

The film presents authentic recollections of people who share their stories and memories, facsimiles of archived documents and photographs. It brings back from oblivion many distinguished persons, who by their actions have eased the fate of the Jewish population in Burgas and prevented its deportation in 1943

Lets’ Remember is a way to express gratitude to all of them; to preserve for future generations the memory of the drama and the grandeur of the human spirit; to show that in this world every person can have an influence on intentionally set events with their will and personal example. The important thing is to have moral courage to defend justice and good deeds!
